Christmas Left Right Game

Gift-wrapped presents are passed around as a story is read out loud. When the word “left” comes up in the story, the gifts are passed to the left. When the word “right” comes up in the story, the gifts are passed to the right. This variation of “Pass the Parcel” is a great Christmas game for giving out party gifts and a fun way to conduct a Christmas gift-exchange.

How to Play the Christmas Left Right Game

Have everyone sit in a circle.
Randomly pass 1 or more gifts to different players.

Read your chosen Left Right Story slowly and loudly.
Everyone holds on to the gifts while listening out for the words “left” and “right”.

Each time the word “left” comes up in the story, all the gifts are passed to the left.
Similarly, each time the word “right” comes up in the story, all the gifts are passed to the right.

At the end of the story, whoever is holding on to the gifts get to keep them.
You can play for as many rounds as you like.

Variation (Gift Exchange)

To use this game to conduct a gift exchange, start with everyone holding the gift they brought. (You may want to prepare extra presents for guests who did not bring a gift for the exchange.)

Play in the same way as above.

Everyone will keep the gifts they are holding at the end of the story.

Variation (Livelier)

To make the game livelier, pass the gifts around continuously.

Start by passing the gifts to the left before you start reading.
As the gifts are being passed around, begin reading your Chosen Left Right Story slowly and loudly.

If the gifts are being passed to the left and the word “right” comes up in the story, everyone must change directions and begin passing the gifts to the right.
However, if the gifts are being passed to the left and the word “left” comes up in the story, everyone must continue passing the gifts to the left.

If the gifts are being passed to the right and the word “left” comes up in the story, everyone must change directions and begin passing the gifts to the left.
However, if the gifts are being passed to the right and the word “right” comes up in the story, everyone must continue passing the gifts to the right.

At the end of the story, everyone must stop passing the gifts.
Those holding the gifts get to keep them.
