How to Play Crazy Eights
1. The objective of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand.
2. Set up the game as follows:
- Shuffle all the cards and deal 5 cards facedown to each player. Players should hold their cards in their hands.
- Place the remaining cards facedown at the center of the table. This forms the Draw Pile.
- Turn over the top card of the Draw Pile and place it faceup to form a Discard Pile.
3. Take turns to play. The youngest player goes first, and play carries on in a clockwise direction.
4. On your turn, you may play a card that matches the color or item of the top card of the Discard Pile. Do so by placing your card faceup on top of the Discard Pile. The turn passes to the next player.
5. If you are unable to play a card (or if you choose not to play a card from your hand), take the top card of the Draw Pile.
You may play this card immediately if it matches the color or item of the top card of the Discard Pile. The turn passes to the next player.
6. The card with the empty egg (#12) is a special Wild card.
These cards can be played to match any color or item.
After playing this card, you can change the color being played to a color of your choice.
7. The first player to get rid of all the cards in their hand wins!
How to Play Old Maid
1. The objective of the game is to form and discard pairs of cards, and not to be left with the “30 pieces of Silver” card at the end.
2. Set up the game as follows:
- Remove three of the “30 pieces of Silver” cards, leaving one that players try to avoid.
- Shuffle the remaining cards and deal them around to each player until all the cards have been handed out. Players do not need to have an equal number of cards.
- Players go through their cards and discard pairs from their hands. Pairs are placed faceup in the middle of the table.
3. Take turns to play. The youngest player goes first, and play carries on in a clockwise direction.
4. On your turn, blindly take one card from the player on your right. If that card matches one in your hand, discard the pair faceup in the middle of the table. The turn passes to the next player.
5. The game ends when all pairs are discarded and one player is left with the “30 pieces of Silver” card.
The item on each card corresponds to an important part of the Easter story.
The significance of each item is explained in the printable provided.
